Canopy – Capturing the Beauty of the PNW
Beneath the towering trees, time slows. The world hushes. The sky peeks through a cathedral of branches, a sacred canopy woven by nature’s own hand. Canopy captures that rare and fleeting sense of peace—the kind found only when the forest swallows you whole, when you surrender to its quiet grandeur.
This photograph was taken from my campsite at Lake Scanewa, Washington—a place where the trees reach endlessly into the heavens, where the air hums with the whispers of ancient pines. Looking up into the sky, I felt embraced, wrapped in a living, breathing sanctuary. This piece is my tribute to that moment—one of stillness, awe, and deep connection to the wild.
Each piece in the FOTO series is crafted with care, ensuring no two are ever alike. The image, printed and mounted onto a wood cradle frame, is sealed beneath layers of encaustic wax, softening the edges of time, adding depth, and bringing an almost dreamlike texture to the piece. Around the perimeter, hand-sculpted texture paste creates a rough-hewn, organic border, painted in a deep charcoal to frame the image in bold contrast.
A meditation in black and white, Canopy invites you to lose yourself in the forest, to breathe deeply, to listen. The trees have stories to tell. Will you stop to hear them?

Special Care for Encaustic Artwork... Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
