River Queen – A Timeless Passage on the Mississippi
The river whispers of history, its currents carrying echoes of jazz, resilience, and the slow churn of paddlewheels cutting through morning mist. River Queen captures a fleeting moment in New Orleans—a regal riverboat resting in the gentle embrace of dawn, its silhouette softened by the lingering fog. The rising sun stretches across the water, unveiling the intricate ironwork of the bridge beyond, a testament to time and transformation. This is the heart of the Mississippi, where past and present dance on the rippling surface.
Like the river herself, River Queen is both movement and stillness, past and present. A love letter to the soulful, timeless spirit of New Orleans.
About the FOTO Series
FOTO is a collection born from the road, a visual memoir of the world as I’ve encountered it. Each piece starts with a photograph from my travels—moments of discovery, awe, and quiet reflection. Printed and mounted onto a handcrafted wooden cradle, the image is encased in layers of encaustic wax, which not only antiquates the scene but also adds a depth and texture that invites exploration. The edges are sculpted with texture paste, painted in charcoal tones to enhance the feeling of a relic unearthed, a story preserved in wax and pigment.
SIZE: 12" x 18" x 1" (30.5cm x 45.75cm x .2.5cm)
Special Care for Encaustic Artwork... Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
